MagicJack seems interesting since it allows one to make calls using VoIP or Voice over Internet Protocol. I called customer service at 800-624-4252 to find out how to get the service. Upon answering my call, the automated voice system told me to press 1 if I was already a member and asked for a billing address and other contact information associated with my account. If I had been a member, I could have visited MagicJack.com to review account information. Since I am not a member, I pressed 2. The system informed me the company may monitor or record my call. It also encouraged me to take a survey at the end of the call. The voice told me to remain on the line to speak to a representative.

The typical customer service hold music started playing, followed by a statement telling me that the company values each call and that representatives were helping other customers. The system then said there was a wait time of one minute. The automated voice also offered the option to get a callback. By pressing 1, I could keep my spot in the queue and receive a callback. During my wait, there was at least one apology about the high call volume and encouraging me to stay on the line for the next representative.

After a few minutes, a customer service representative answered, “MagicJack sales department, may I help you?” I told the representative I was interested in learning how MagicJack works and how to get it. He explained that the service would enable me to make phone calls using VoIP anywhere in the U.S. and Canada and that I could buy a device that connects to the internet and pay a monthly fee. They also said I could download a mobile app to use while traveling. He explained that I needed to buy the device to use MagicJack and could get it from a big box store or online retailer. The representative told me that after purchasing the device, I could call the customer service number, and someone would assist me with activation and registration.

Except for spending a few minutes waiting for a customer service associate, the call to MagicJack was a positive experience. I liked that they offered to call me back and hold my place if I didn’t have time to wait. The person who spoke with me was a friendly professional who explained the service such that I had no doubts about how to subscribe.
