Good morning, I need to correct the name on my HMRC account. My first name is Quynh, my middle names are Thi Nhu, and my surname is TRUONG. The name on the account is currently Thi Truong, but my passport lists it as Truong Thi Nhu Quynh, following Vietnamese naming conventions. This mismatch is preventing me from opening a Life ISA account. Your assistance in rectifying this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

We are a small employer looking to hire a part-time staff member. If this employee's total earnings from us and their other job exceed £[redacted] per month, how does National Insurance apply? Who is responsible for paying the NI, us or the other employer, or is it a shared responsibility based on earnings proportion?

I recently filed my self-assessment tax return for 2[redacted], which showed no taxes owed. However, I received a letter in November claiming I owe £[redacted].40 for this tax year. Due to being off work for an operation from July onwards, I only worked from January to July. I have not informed HMRC of my work details for this year, so I am confused about the tax bill. The letter states it is a self-assessment statement.

Hello, Philip Dobson, HMRC owes you £4,[redacted].30. This is a reminder notice. To claim your refund quickly, access your Personal Tax Account online. Claiming online can result in receiving your refund within 3 to 5 days. Please follow the instructions on your screen to proceed. The reason for the overpayment is that our annual review revealed an excess in the Income Tax you paid. By not completing the necessary form, you risk not receiving your refund. For assistance with HMRC related to landlords, reach out to the Head of Digital Support for Business, Peter Miller. Issuing date: Thursday, 16 December [redacted].

On my personal tax account, the year-to-date earnings display as £17,[redacted] and tax as £2,[redacted].86, which is accurate based on payments received. However, my recent payslip shows year-to-date earnings as £13,[redacted].90 and tax as £[redacted].40, which is clearly incorrect. Please inform my current employer of the accurate previous pay and tax details to rectify the tax calculations. I have been fined for not filing a tax return, but I ceased being self-employed on July 4, [redacted]. My last tax return reflected my bookkeeping date and self-employment deregistration. Could you clarify why I am receiving this fine? Thank you, Laurie T. NS642401D

Hello, I am planning to retire from my civil service pension on March 31, [redacted]. I have my British Passport as one proof of ID, but I do not have a driver's license as I do not drive. I was informed that I can provide an HMRC tax notice letter as another proof of ID. Could you please provide me with the contact numbers or email address I should use to reach HMRC? Thank you for your assistance. I am looking forward to hearing from you soon. Best regards, Constante Agonoy

Reference [redacted] K [redacted] Hello, I had previously agreed with HMRC to make monthly payments of £73.94 to repay outstanding amounts related to HICBC. Due to the impact of Covid-19 on my wife's employment and income, I am finding it difficult to keep up with this payment plan. Although I made payments in August, September, and October, I have not been able to make the payments since then. I kindly request that the outstanding amount, approximately £1,[redacted], be temporarily suspended until my wife's work situation stabilizes. I am willing to pay the accrued interest on this amount. Alternatively, I would appreciate it if the monthly payment could be reduced to a more affordable amount considering our current circumstances. As we approach the holiday season with uncertainties about our children's extended time at home, any help or support HMRC could provide would be greatly welcomed. Thank you, Rupert G.

As a small Ltd Company, I recently switched accountancy firms. The new firm has full authorization to manage my tax affairs and business matters. However, they are unable to access my VAT account using the credentials from my previous accountants. Since I wasn't involved in setting up the VAT previously, I'm seeking assistance to resolve this issue before my VAT return is due in December/January. Thank you for your help with this matter.

I need guidance on setting up a trustees account for a Vulnerable Person's Trust for my stepson, as instructed in his late father's will. Unfortunately, the major banks I have approached do not offer this type of account. I believe the trust should be recognized by HMRC, but I am unsure of the steps to take to make this arrangement a reality. Any advice would be appreciated.

For more than 3 years, I have been attempting to create a gateway account to access my pension forecast and payment date. Each year, I have used unique combinations of a username and password, to no avail. Unfortunately, I am continuously met with a message in a red box stating that my user ID and password do not match. Despite receiving text messages containing my access security number and my Gateway ID, I am still unable to access this crucial information. I am eager to understand if there is a solution to this issue as I am looking forward to claiming my state pension, the amount, and the date when it will be available. Your assistance in resolving this matter will be greatly appreciated.

I am trying to claim a tax refund for working from home for 2 years, which amounts to around £[redacted]. However, I am having trouble answering security questions because I don't keep financial records. The questions mention HP, which I thought no longer existed. I have an Argos card that I pay back immediately, and a Debenhams card for larger purchases, which I usually pay off within 3 months. I can't remember every transaction to fill out the form. I also saw an outgoing payment of around £5.00 to Gateway on my online banking; if this is the government, why are they charging me? Can I fill out a paper tax form, and would you be able to assist me with that? Thanks.

I have encountered numerous difficulties trying to submit my EU/EEA certificates for the year [redacted]/[redacted]. After sending them in July and later being informed they were not received, I resent them on September 24th and confirmed their delivery through Royal Mail tracking. Communication via phone has been frustrating as the automated system did not understand my inquiries. Even when requesting assistance for self-assessment, many staff members seemed unaware of the process. Given my annual obligation to provide the HMRC signature on these documents for the German tax office due by early March, I am seeking guidance on the appropriate department to contact. Previous experiences trying to reach the correct person or department have been distressing, and I hope for a smoother resolution this time. Thank you for your assistance.

I have requested the refund to be deposited into my bank account via the government Gateway Account and anticipate it will process this week. Hello, I am unable to reach my accountant, who was supposed to file my self-assessment return. Despite multiple phone calls and emails, I haven't heard back and fear she may have blocked me. With the January 31st deadline looming, I don't want to incur another £[redacted] fine. I notified her in April [redacted] about closing my Ltd business, for which I paid in full, but no progress has been made. I am unsure how to retrieve my accounts from Vicky Ramsey of Aequalis Accounting to seek assistance from a new accountant and proceed with closing down the business. Any guidance would be appreciated. Thank you for your help. Sincerely, Phil Hanson

I submitted a complaint on January 7th, accessible through my online tax account with reference DC7-1DVD-KKP. The complaint is about my letter from last April requesting a refund on PPI interest. I haven't received any updates on this matter. The progress bar shows no activity, so I'm requesting an update. Due to the considerable time elapsed, I'm also seeking backdated interest from April when the original complaint was raised. Thank you.
