I have been trying to book a flight to LA and it seems like the Delta website changes daily attempting to find the best price. I'm getting frustrated trying to figure out the gates since I need accommodation for someone I'm traveling with, so I decided just to call them to book my flight.
I know that airlines are busy and that customer service isn't always their best service, so I wasn't sure how it was going to go when I decided to call Delta but I had to give it a shot. When I called a voice assistant answered and said, "Hi, thank you for calling Delta Airlines. To get you to the right place, what can I help you with today?"
I answered "Book a flight to LA." Then the voice assistant asked me what payment method I was using to pay for the trip and I answered that I would pay with a credit card. Then it asked me, "I can help you to complete your booking online while you are waiting to talk to a specialist. Can I send you a link to get started?"
I didn't want to go online since that was my original problem, and the automated assistant answered, "Your current wait time to talk to a specialist is 51 minutes. So I can pass this on to your specialist, where are you flying from then?"
After I said LA, it still didn't send me to a customer representative and tried again to persuade me to use digital means to book by saying, "For faster service, you can message with us and decrease your wait to 9 minutes. Press 1 for Android and 2 for Apple iOs."
It was clear at this point that Delta really didn't want to offer live service, but when I declined again it did offer me a callback service. It was almost an hour later, but the representative did call me back and I was able to complete my purchase.
