I'm thinking about getting motorcycle insurance with GEICO, but I hate signing up for new policies online. I prefer talking to an agent who can walk me through each section of liability and offer me some recommendations. This is something my husband used to take care of, but now that we're divorced it falls back onto me and I'm just not that comfortable with it. As a motorcyclist, I've been in a few accidents and appreciate how important the right coverage can be, so I prefer to talk to someone who understands it better than myself.
That said, I found this phone number online as a sort of cheat to get right to a representative, but it didn't go as planned. GEICO manages a lot of different insurance policies including home auto, and miscellaneous ones, so I'm sure they get a lot of phone calls. I was hoping to get to someone quickly, but the line was a dead end. When I called, a recorded voice said, "Thank you for calling GEICO. This call may be monitored or recorded for quality purposes. If you know your party's extension, enter it at any time during this message. If you do not know your party extension, please dial one for our company names directory."
Clearly, that line led to some type of corporate headquarters, and if you don't pick an extension it hangs up on you. So, that wasn't going to work. I Googled the motorcycle customer care number for GEICO and found this number, 1-866-238-6902 which did get to me a person eventually. It took about 10 minutes, but at the end of the phone call, I was able to speak to someone about different motorcycle policies.
While there was a 10-minute wait to talk to a representative, I actually found the directory easy to use. It asked me upfront if I needed a motorcycle policy and after I gave the voice assistant some pertinent information such as my birth date, phone number, and ZIP code it sent me straight to a hold line. The music wasn't that bad, and the representative who answered spoke clearly and walked me through some policy choices if I decided to go with GEICO. They also offered me several policy payment options and I enjoyed the flexibility and extra time they took to review those with me. I didn't sign up yet, but I did appreciate the thorough nature of the call.
