Although this is a Sirius/XM phone number, it appears to go to an executive's private line rather than to a general directory. As such, that limits its usefulness unless you have time to wait on a call back from a specific person.
When I dialed this number, I was surprised to find that it functioned like a standard telephone number, ringing rather than going to an automated system or a call center. Unfortunately, this didn't work to my advantage, as it meant I was routed to a voicemail system rather than being provided a way to get my call answered.
To its credit, the voicemail confirmed that the number does work and goes to the company's headquarters, playing a message saying I had reached Sirius/XM and that staff was busy securing more of the best music, entertainment and sports for its channels. If I wanted, I could leave a voicemail and have someone call me back later.
I see both positives and negatives to this approach. On one hand, it's helpful to customers to let them know they haven't reached this number in error. On the other hand, this number really isn't advertised by Sirius/XM as a way to solve problems, and it's not one of the most helpful ways to find solutions. Unless Sirius/XM plans to offer this number as one of its main ways for customers to get help, it would really be better for the company to instead offer customers a different number to call for faster service. Most customers probably aren't going to leave a message anyway, so this number seems fairly limited as to how it can help.
Additionally, if you do leave a message, you're at the mercy of how long it takes Sirius/XM to check the voicemail and respond with a call back. Most customers who are going to call will likely do so with an immediate problem to solve, and having to wait for someone to return the call may not work for most people's busy schedules.
Overall, while I appreciate the confirmation of reaching Sirius/XM and the detailed voicemail option, I think this number could better serve customers by packaging information in another way. As it is, you either have to get lucky and call at the right time or you have to wait on someone to return your call. Given that Sirius/XM offers other numbers with faster response times, I wouldn't use this number unless my call wasn't urgent or I really needed help from someone specific.
